Pakistan has won the Champions Trophy match against India by 54 runs. Shoaib Malik who was awarded the man of the match made a superb century. Indian bowlers were highly punished by the Pakistanis as they got past 300. India batted second and got good start. But wickets fell regularly and asking rate got higher. Finally they were all out for 248.

Pakistan a huge score of 302 batting first. Shoaib Malik made a superb century. Malik made over 200 runs record partnership with Yousuf who made 87 of 88. Indian spinners especially Harbajan Singh was very expensive. Ashish Nehra bowled beautifully but rest were not satisfactory.

Pakistan: 302/9 in 50 overs.
India : 248 all out in 44.5 overs

After about 16 months India vs Pakistan cricket match will be held. Its the 1st match for India in the Champions trophy 2009 and second for Pakistan. The current Indian and Pakistani team seem to be equally balanced with some special features as well as some problems in both team. Pakistan has probably the best pace attack while India is with the superb batting lineup. Unlike India, Pakistan is not hit my problem with so much of injuries which is a benefit for them.

India is likely to open with Gambhir and Tendular. Sachin, Dravid, Dhoni, Raina and Pathan will be in middle order. The bowling will feature Harbajan, Ishant and RP Singh. Yuvraj Singh's place can be occupied either by Virat Kohli, Avishek Nayar or Dinesh Karthik. Pakistan is definite to open with Akmal and Nazir. India vs Pakistan 2009 in ICC Champions Trophy - Players to watch

Just one more day for one of the most awaited match of this year. After more than 16 months India and Pakistan will be face to face on 26th September's Champions Trophy group match. Since their last encounter, a lot of changes has taken place in the team. Some new players are threat to both India and Pakistan. Players like Umar Akmal and Mohammad Aamer have emerged in Pakistani team who never played against India. I have some of the players whose role can be considered vital in the battle.

Players to watch for Pakistan: The bowling is the weapon of Pakistan and its at its best. Along with pace attack, the spin attack is at its best. Some of the players from Pakistan who can be heroes of the match are:

i) Umar Gul: Umar Gul is the leader of Pakistani pace attack. He showed superb bowling against West Indies and is currently in great touch. In about 60 matches he has 90 wickets and is quite economic. The only problem with him is that his record against India is not very good. Anyway, it was long before and seeing his current form he can be considered the biggest threat to India:

ii) Mohammad Aamer : The 17-year old paceman from Pakistan is a real emerging star. From his debut he has been in great touch. His bowling can touch the speed of 90 mph. Being a youngster, he will be opening the bowing for Pakistan which proves his ability. Only thing lacking in him is experience.

iii) Umar Akmal: Umar Akmal has emerged as a superb batsman for Pakistan. Though he is new to Pakistan cricket, he has shown superb batting against Sri Lanka and West Indies. He is an aggressive batsman and plays with lots of confidence.

Apart from these, spinner Saeed Ajmal and all-rounder Shahid Afridi are in great form.

Players to Watch from India : Unlike Pakistan India is not full of too many youngsters but the senior players are in great touch. Pace attack seems to be a bit weaker in comparison to Pakistan but batting lineup looks better. Some players to watch from India are:

i)Sachin Tendulkar : Sachin Tendulkar is always a great threat to Pakistan. He is a batsman who can play easily against the pace attack of Pakistan. He is currently in great touch. The century against Sri Lanka has shown that he can play for more years with same class and batting technique.

2) MS Dhoni : MS Dhoni too has been a great headache for Pakistan. Dhoni was recognized as a very attacking batsmen in the series against Pakistan. Either its test, ODI or T20 Dhoni has always shown great batting against Pakistan. He is now in great form as is the no.1 batsman in ODI ranking.

3)Ashish Nehra : Ashish Nehra will be leading the Indian pace attack. After a long gap, he has made a superb comeback in international cricket. He has a lot of experience of playing against Pakistan.

Apart from these, spinner Harbajan Singh is in great touch. Yuvraj Singh's absence will be a great problem for India.

Pakistan have won the Champions Trophy match against West Indies by 5 wickets. Pakistan has shown superb bowling against the unexperienced West Indian side. West Indies won the toss and batted first but wickets started falling from the first over. Mahammad Ameer has so far taken 3 wickets including one in the fifteenth over. Umar Gul took 3 wickets including 2 in 15th over. West Indies once were 47-5 but finally managed 133.


Pakistan crumbled at first with wickets falling regularly. At once they were 75-5. But Umar Akmal played beautifully for his 40 and got the man of the match.

Pakistan will face the weakened West Indies in the second match of ICC Champions trophy 2009. With most of the renowned players in strike, West Indies has almost the same squad which was clean swept by Bangladesh recently. Pakistan will miss their captain Younis Khan due to injury but has some players like Umar Akmal, Rana Naved and Umar Gul in superb touch. Shahid Afridi who will be an acting captain has too made a superb comeback.

India vs Pakistan in ICC Champions Trophy 2009

After a long gap of more than 14 months, we will see two arch rivals India and Pakistan face to face in international cricket. The group A match of ICC Champions trophy scheduled on 26th September is certainly one of the most awaited matches this year for cricket fans. With no hope of bilateral series for at least 2 years, India vs Pakistan matches will now be rare and these type of tournaments are only the hope of seeing them together.

India and Pakistan last played in Asia cup in June 2008. After Mumbai attacks, Pakistan's visit to India was canceled. So, this match is of great importance for every cricket fan. Before the start of Champions trophy 2009, some unofficial ODI matches are going to be played as warm-up matches. On 18th September, Pakistan and Sri Lanka battle at Benoi. The regular players are expected to play in this warm up match and it will be fully entertaining. As a final practise for the ICC Champions Trophy 2009, both the teams will try their best.


Pakistan is captained by Younis Khan. For them the bowling is the strength. Umar Gul is in great touch. In batting Umar Akmal is emerging. Shahid Afridi is showing his all-round performance. The Sri Lankan team for me are one of the favorites for the Champions trophy. They have batting of Sangakkara, Dilshan and Jayasuriya. Matthews is one of the best all-rounders I have seen in world cricket at present.

Mohammad Asif will make a comeback to the Pakistani team as he is selected in the 15-men squad for ICC Champions trophy 2009. After being out from international cricket, he was recently reported to be in good form. After a superb start to career, he was out for teams due to injuries and finally found positive in doping.

Pakistan squad: Younis Khan (captain), Imran Nazir, Misbah-ul-Haq, Umar Akmal, Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi, Naved-ul Hasan, Fawad Alam, Mohammad Yousuf, Kamran Akmal (wk), Umar Gul, Mohammad Aamer, Mohammad Asif, Rao Iftikhar, Saeed Ajmal.

So, All-rounder Abdul Razzaq will be out along with openers Salman Butt and Naser Jamshed. Razzaq got a moderate comeback but again he has been ignored. Probably, the Pakistan selectors are again forcing him to sign for ICL. Completely unfair decision. With addition of Razzaq, Pakistan could have a superb fast bowling and he could work as a very hard hitting batsman.

3 ICL players are included - Rana Naved, Mohammad Yousuf and Imran Nazir. Naved and Yousuf have made a superb comeback. The newly discovered Umar Akmal will be one of the key players to watch along with Shahid Afridi, Umar Gul, Ameer and Younus Khan.

Sri Lanka won the five match series 3-2 with Pakistan coming back well in the game. The test series and ODI series win was a great revenge of World T20 final. Watch out for:
Shahid Afridi who unlike the ODI series is likely to get chances both with bat and ball. He is going to be the captain of Pak T20 team and is likely to be batting at around no.3

Umar Akmal who has been a very attacking player and is best suited for T20 matches.

Angelo Matthews who can shine both with bat and ball for Sri Lanka.

After losing the series, Pakistan came back strongly in the fourth ODI and restored some pride. It was the Akmal brothers specially Umar Akmal and Younis Khan who shined with the bat along with Rao Ifthikar Anjum who destroyed Sri Lankan strong batting lineup with the superb bowling. Still some Pakistani players including Shoaib Malik, Misbah, Mohammad Yousuf need to deliver on the 5th ODI to prove they are worth. A genuine opener is certainly required.

The result of the 5 match series is known. Pakistan now plays for saving some pride and Sri Lanka to reduce it. After the world T20 win, a close competition was expected between Sri Lanka and Pakistan but Pakistan in no ways have given a competition. The series has been completely dominated by the Lankans. Their win in 4th ODI means great humiliation of Pakistan. Senior players of Pakistan must come back to form to save themselves from this condition.

Pakistan teams/squad for ODI in Sri Lanka 2009

Pakistan have called their squad for the ODI series in Sri Lanka. The first one out of five, will be played in Dambulla on the July 30. Pakistan will have played 3 test against the Sri Lanka before they meet in the ODI series.

The squad have some important facts as some ex-ICL players are also named for the squad. Apart from Abdul Razzaq and Mohammed Yusuf, fast bowler Rana Naved and attacking opener batsman Imran Nazir are also included in the squad.
