New Zealand team for ICC Champions trophy 2009

Shane Bond, one of the best fast bowlers New Zealand ever produced will make a comeback to the team in ICC Champions Trophy 2009. He was out from the team after playing for the ICL. But he has left ICL like most of other international players. Fast bolwer Daryl Tuffey who has been out from New Zealand team will too make comeback to the side.

New Zealand squad for Champions trophy: Daniel Vettori (capt), Shane Bond, Neil Broom, Ian Butler, Brendon Diamanti Grant Elliott, Martin Guptill, Gareth Hopkins, Brendon McCullum, Kyle Mills, Jacob Oram Jeetan Patel, Jesse Ryder, Ross Taylor, Daryl Tuffey

Other new name in the team is Brendon Diamanti, a lower order batsman and medium pacer. The team will be captained by Daniel Vettori and included players like Ross Taylor, Jacob Oram, McCullum, Tyder and others.

South African team for the ICC Champions trophy 2009

The no.1 ODI team, South Africa have selected their 15-men squad for the ICC Champions trophy 2009 to be held in their home soil. Fast bowler Morne Morkel has been dropped from the squad after poor form. Robin Peterson who has been out from International cricket for years has been included.

South Africa squad: Graeme Smith (capt), Johan Botha, Hashim Amla, Mark Boucher (wk), AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Herschelle Gibbs, Jacques Kallis, Albie Morkel, Makhaya Ntini, Wayne Parnell, Robin Peterson, Dale Steyn, Lonwabo Tsotsobe, Roelof van der Merwe

Charl Langeveldt couldn't make a comeback due to injury. Another fast bowler Lonwabo Tsotsobe has too been dropped. He had shown memorable entry in the team playing against Australia. As usual team will be captained by Graaeme Smith. Duminy, Villers and Kallis would be the favorite batsmen. Steyn, Ntini will be leading the pace attack for the Proteas.

Pakistan team for ICC Champions Trophy 2009

Mohammad Asif will make a comeback to the Pakistani team as he is selected in the 15-men squad for ICC Champions trophy 2009. After being out from international cricket, he was recently reported to be in good form. After a superb start to career, he was out for teams due to injuries and finally found positive in doping.

Pakistan squad: Younis Khan (captain), Imran Nazir, Misbah-ul-Haq, Umar Akmal, Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi, Naved-ul Hasan, Fawad Alam, Mohammad Yousuf, Kamran Akmal (wk), Umar Gul, Mohammad Aamer, Mohammad Asif, Rao Iftikhar, Saeed Ajmal.

So, All-rounder Abdul Razzaq will be out along with openers Salman Butt and Naser Jamshed. Razzaq got a moderate comeback but again he has been ignored. Probably, the Pakistan selectors are again forcing him to sign for ICL. Completely unfair decision. With addition of Razzaq, Pakistan could have a superb fast bowling and he could work as a very hard hitting batsman.

3 ICL players are included - Rana Naved, Mohammad Yousuf and Imran Nazir. Naved and Yousuf have made a superb comeback. The newly discovered Umar Akmal will be one of the key players to watch along with Shahid Afridi, Umar Gul, Ameer and Younus Khan.

Australia moves to no.4 in ICC test rankings

After the Ashes 2009 defeat, Australia have slipped 3 positions in ICC test rankings table. This is the first time they have lost the no.1 test position since the system of rankings in 2003 had started. Australia are now no.4 in test and no.3 in ODI. South Africa is no.1 in both test and ODI cricket rankings. Sri Lanka ranks no.2 in test followed by India. Despite the Ashes win, England is in no.5 position.

After Australia lost their no.1 position this year, they were still in no.1 in test though they lost series continuously. It was due to their superb form before 2 years. Not just the test defeat but also the lefting out of older matches have dropped the Aussies 9 points below the Proteas.

It was always the fact that England bowled a superb first innings where they restricted Australia for 160 still 172 runs behind. Ten nothing went for Australia. England's pace bowler Stuart Broad came hero taking five wickets in the 1st innings. Spinner Graeme Swann supported him a lot with four in his bag. Debutant Trott made an impressive century in second innings. Chasing 546, Aussie had somehow good start and they seemed to be quite happy before they loose their captain and vice both from silly run outs. 5th test of Ashes 2009 - Live | Eng v Aus

After 4 tests being played, the result will be decided by the 5th test at the Oval. The one test match is going to decide who will be the champion of glorious Ashes series. After a superb win for England in third test, they were completely shattered by Aussies in the 4th one. But superb performance of English in first three tests and the comeback made by Aussies have made the 5th test unpredictable adding a lot of excitement.

5th Test: England v Australia
Venue: The Oval | Date and Time: Aug 20-24 (11:00 local, 10:00 GMT)

Live Score of Ashes 2009:

Seeing the 4th test, Australia seem to be on top. The way their bowlers bowled was superb. Australian pace attack grew superbly. But remember the third test. After a narrow escape in 2nd one, they came back strongly and grabbed it.

Flintoff is expected to play in the fifth one and England may go on with two spinners. Johnathan Trott is included in the squad and its almost sure he will play for England in the 5th one. The absence of Pietersen is a big loss but still they have great batsmen in the top and middle order.

Pakistan Vs Sri Lanka T20 match 2009 - Live

Sri Lanka won the five match series 3-2 with Pakistan coming back well in the game. The test series and ODI series win was a great revenge of World T20 final. But still another format of cricket is left- Twenty20. Pakistan and Sri Lanka face each other in the only T20 match of the tour on August 12.

Only T20 : Sri Lanka v Pakistan
Venue: Colombo Date and time: Aug 12 , 19:00 local, 13:30 GMT

After test and ODI win, Sri Lanka's morale is high. But with the win in T20 world cup final and superb comeback in the last two ODI's Pakistan seem to be building strong against the Lankans. Pak have some made-for T20 players including Afridi, newly discovered Umar Akmal, Rana Naved, Misbah and Gul. Sri Lanka too has big hitters and great T20 bowlers including the all-time great Jayasuriya, the hero of ODI series Matthews, Mendis and Malinga.

Watch out for:
Shahid Afridi who unlike the ODI series is likely to get chances both with bat and ball. He is going to be the captain of Pak T20 team and is likely to be batting at around no.3

Umar Akmal who has been a very attacking player and is best suited for T20 matches.

Angelo Matthews who can shine both with bat and ball for Sri Lanka.

Ashes 2009 : England need to re-group after Headingley massacre

For a few short moments on Sunday morning, as Stuart Broad and Graeme Swann blasted Stuart Clark all round the ground, thoughts turned to 1981 when Ian Botham and Bob Willis inspired England to the unlikeliest of victories.

Would we see such a miracle again?

Well we were swiftly made to pay for such foolish thinking. Australia wrapped up a crushing innings victory within an hour after lunch on the third day and carry over the now infamous momentum going into the Ashes decider at The Oval next week.

Squint hard enough and you would have thought it was the imperious Australia of old that turned England over in Leeds this weekend. Stuart Clark, back in the side at the expense of Nathan Hauritz, was made to look like the Glenn McGrath of old as the Aussies ripped through the England order on a stunning opening day. Then as the England bowlers persisted with short-pitched wayward deliveries it was as if Hayden and Langer were in their pomp, blasting the ball to all corners of the park.

That may be a disservice to the quartet of Ponting, Watson, North and Clarke, who delivered a master class in batting and ruthlessly dragged the game away from England.

But the distance between the two sides is not as great as this scoreline suggests. It seems to me once again that, mentally, England have a soft centre. The chaotic first morning at Headingley, which began with a 4:30am fire alarm at the hotel, incorporated Flintoffs absence from the side and Matt Priors back spasm while playing football in the warm up, meant it was an unsettled and harassed England side that collapsed on the first day.

Then as Ponting and Watson made hay the body language of the England fielders suggested they were already beaten on day one.

With a deficit of 350 the pressure was on and once again Englands middle order collapsed like a house of cards. Only when the pressure was off and the game over did Broad and Swann express themselves, showing the upper order that the Australian attack isnt as formidable as the figures suggest.

England need to put this defeat behind them and quick. Their ability has never been in question but once again when the pressure is on they are found wanting.

Freddie Flintoff may return for the final game, determined to go out on a high. His re-appearance may prove a vital boost to the side and ensure they avoid such a catastrophic start as they did in this test. Do that again, and that famous little urn will once again remain in Australian hands.

For now, keep on top of The Oval Test odds before any Fifth Test betting.

Pakistan Vs Sri Lanka 5th ODI 2009 - Live

After losing the series, Pakistan came back strongly in the fourth ODI and restored some pride. It was the Akmal brothers specially Umar Akmal and Younis Khan who shined with the bat along with Rao Ifthikar Anjum who destroyed Sri Lankan strong batting lineup with the superb bowling. Still some Pakistani players including Shoaib Malik, Misbah, Mohammad Yousuf need to deliver on the 5th ODI to prove they are worth. A genuine opener is certainly required.

5th ODI: Sri Lanka v Pakistan

Venue: Colombo
Date: Aug 9 2009 | Time : 14:30 local, 09:00 GMT

For Sri Lankans the 5th ODI is not of great matter so they are likely to play new ones. Tharanga has made a superb comeback. Malinga Bandara who couldn't make it to the team with two best spinners got a chance and delivered. As the preparations for future series against New Zealand, Sri Lanka will bring new ones.

Watch out for:

Umar Akmal who got fifty in second match and hundred in his third ODI.
Upul Tharanga who has made a superb comeback in the Lankan team.

Ashes 2009 4th test - Live | England Vs Australia

The Ashes 2009 has given the real taste of Ashes series. Unexpectedly, England have dominated the series with a sudden escape in the first test, completely dominating second test and with great show in the third test. Ashes 2009 reminds us of the historic Ashes 2005 which was won by England. But Aussies are still in the game with 2 more matches to go. Its now impossible for them to create a outstanding result like or Ashes 2007 but can still make it 2-1.

4th Test: England v Australia in Ashes 2009
Venue: Leeds, Date: Aug 7-11 Time:11:00 local, 10:00 GMT, 15:30 India

Live Score of Ashes 2009:

England and Australia both are suffering from injury problems before the match. Flintoff has made headlines with his knee injury. The bowler in verge of his retirement has shown splendid performance so far. Australian batsman Clarke whose heroics saved the 3rd test is reported to have some abdominal problems. Haddin has too undergone an injury.

The Headingley ground is famous for its swing. Flintoff who is the leading wicket taker is expected to show another great performance. Little rain may be witnessed but will not be of great concern. Brett Lee reports himself to be 100% fit but is very unlikely to be included. Hilfenhaus who has been top performer for the Aussies will be in focus for the expected swing.

Pakistan Vs Sri Lanka 4th ODI 2009 - live

The result of the 5 match series is known. Pakistan now plays for saving some pride and Sri Lanka to reduce it. After the world T20 win, a close competition was expected between Sri Lanka and Pakistan but Pakistan in no ways have given a competition. The series has been completely dominated by the Lankans. Their win in 4th ODI means great humiliation of Pakistan. Senior players of Pakistan must come back to form to save themselves from this condition.

There has not been a great show by any of the Pakistani batsmen. The Akmal brothers have been somewhat satisfying but rest including Malik, Misbah and even Yousuf are boring. Bowling has been upto the mark except in the 3rd ODI where it was almost useless.
